Kroppsua – Finnish Pancakes
By my reckoning this is the sixteenth pancake recipe I have posted. Sixteen!! And I have another seven or eight lined up… This is definitely a pancake obsession. But I am very okay with that.
Pancakes are good.
This is another oven baked recipe, this time from Finland. Oven baked pancakes are prepared in a similar way to traditional pan cooked pancakes, but cooked in a hot oven which leaves you free to prepare a fancy topping or watch Man U play.
Guess which option I chose…
I topped them with sliced banana and maple syrup.
These are quite eggy. Almost like an egg custard in the centre, and a small piece is a good serving as it is very filling. It is deceptively filling as it feels light at first bite.
We both enjoyed them, and would have them again, but they wouldn’t be our first choice. We preferred the German Pancakes, “Dutch Babies”, which are also oven baked and much fluffier and lighter.
Kroppsua (Finland)
(This recipe yields 12 servings)
• 4 large eggs
• 3 cups milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 Tablespoons sugar
• 1 and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 6 Tablespoons margarine or butter
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Beat eggs, milk, and vanilla together. Add sugar, flour, and salt. Mix well.
Heat a 9×13″ pan in the oven with the margarine until melted. Mix batter again and pour into the hot pan.
Bake 20 minutes at 425 and then lower oven to 350 and bake 10 minutes longer.
Top with maple syrup, jam, or any of your favorite pancake toppings.
This would eliminate the darn that griddle’s too hot moments! It sounds great, I need to try at least one of the 16! Oh check your link on the German pancakes.
If you want to try an oven pancake go for the German Pancakes first. They are amazingly light and so good. These ones are good but the German ones are better, in my opinion. I hope you enjoy them, if you try them out.
I think the poster was referring to the fact that your link to the German pancakes didn’t work. That said, I think I’d start with those as well based on your and Allan’s recommendations. 🙂
Thanks! I was being blonde and didn’t get that. I have fixed the link now. I would definitely recommend the Dutch Babies over the Kroppsua, though we would have these again, but not for a while. Thanks for pointing out what he was saying. I was so daft! 🙂
I fixed the link, thanks!
I have never tried oven baked pancakes before. I guess I definitely should! Pancakes are the best.
These are good, but I prefer the German Pancakes. They are oven baked too and so fluffy it is incredible! I hope you try them sometime.
I will definitely be making this for my Easter breakfast. Thanks for #16!!
These were good, but we definitely preferred the German Pancakes (Dutch Babies) which are also oven pancakes. These are eggier if you know what I mean while the Dutch Babies are really fluffy and light. Both are good, I guess it depends on your tastes which you prefer. Whichever you try, I hope you enjoy them!
I’m so glad I happened on your blog! The recipes look wonderful. During this last school year, I’ve become a bonafide baking addict. I can’t wait to try some of your creations! I’ll check back in!
Keep up the delicious work!
