Tangy Slow Cooker Chicken Legs

This is not a “throw it all in and walk away” slow cooker recipe, though you probably could and just increase the time cooking.  But, when you have the inclination to brown some chicken legs and simmer some ingredients to make a great sauce, then this is worth the very small effort required.

And the sauce…  This is the sauce I am going to use when I need a Barbecue Sauce on the side at any BBQ or buffet.  It really is that good.

Tangy Slow Cooker Chicken Legs

  • 1 cup brewed coffee
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Worchestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • chicken legs or thighs

Combine the first 7 ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until thickened.  Stir the sauce occasionally.

Lightly pan fry the chicken pieces and transfer to a slow cooker.

Pour the sauce over the chicken and cook on high for 4 hours.

NOTE: Depending on how thoroughly the chicken is fried, the slow cooker time will be shortened. Check the chicken after 2 hours in the slow cooker
