Quick and Easy Barbecue Sauce
I had to make a huge batch of Barbecued Spare Ribs at short notice, and didn’t have time to make the Carolina Style Barbecue Sauce I usually favour. Also, that barbecue sauce is pretty spicy and I wanted to keep the ribs fairly light on spice as there would be a lot of different people eating them, and not everyone is as big a fan of spice as I am.
This recipe is a sweet one, which is made up in just minutes and works great with ribs. The one proviso is that this burns if cooked for too long or over too high a heat, so I cooked the ribs and then painted this on a short time from the end of cooking.
This isn’t just for ribs, it is a simple BBQ sauce for any use, with meat or vegetables or as an ingredient in another recipe that calls for Barbecue Sauce. It is so quick to put together and isn’t spicy, though it can be spiced up with some chilli if that is how you prefer it. I know that it sounds as though it would be very “ketchup-y” but with the Worcestershire Sauce it isn’t. It has a good barbecue tang.
Quick and Easy BBQ Sauce
- 1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups ketchup
- 2 – 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (or more depending on your taste)
In a medium bowl, mix together onion soup mix, sugar, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.
Do not use until the last few minutes of cooking, because this sweet sauce will burn if cooked for too long or over too high heat.
