Simple Sweet and Sour Sauce

Iwasn’t feeling all that great today, so decided that I would just make some simple sweet and sour sauce to put over the rice I was cooking to go with Allan’s goulash.

I scrambled some egg to mix through the rice to make a fast egg fried rice and poured the sauce over the top.

This sauce is very simple, and far from authentic, but it is quick, easy and tasty.  It isn’t too sweet, and has a nice tang.  It isn’t the orange colour of commercial sweet and sour sauces, I use dark soy sauce which makes it darker in colour.

It can be tarted up with the addition of pineapple chunks and a little of the pineapple juice. 

Simple Sweet and Sour Sauce

• ¾ cup white sugar
• 1/3 cup white vinegar
• 2/3 cup water
• ¼ cup soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon ketchup
• 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Directions
1. Place the sugar, vinegar, water, soy sauce, ketchup and cornstarch in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil. Stir continuously until the mixture has thickened.
