Five Minute Brownie in a Mug

As part of the challenge my darling little sister has thrown down in her continual refusal to share her amazing brownie recipe I am making brownies this afternoon.

When I was looking out the recipe I remembered this.

Brownies in five minutes.

I made these in the days when we actually had a microwave.  And, genuinely, from deciding to make these to sitting eating them took no more than five minutes.

So, if you are in the mood for some chocolate brownies, and have a microwave (that is an essential part of this plan) and a mug, this is the recipe for you!

Just before cooking.

Warning:  This is hot!!  Some of the chocolate is molten and the brownie is hot, but if you can count to ten before diving in your tongue should be safe.

  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • a small splash of vanilla extract
  • 1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to a large microwavable mug and mix well. Beat the egg into the milk, vanilla and oil and mix well. Fold in chocolate chips.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).

The brownie will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
