Rustic Roast Grape Appetiser
This is such an easy appetiser, and one that presents really well too. It should be served with a good creamy blue cheese and thick slices of a crusty baguette for best taste, but not having access to a blue cheese we still enjoy it with cheddar and crackers!
The sugar in the grapes caramelises and is so sweet, which is why the sharpness of the blue cheese goes really well with these roast grapes. They are good with crackers and regular cheese, but a really creamy Oka or Brie would be great with crusty slices of baguette.
Rustic Roast Grape Appetiser
- 1 pound red or green grapes
- Piece of creamy blue cheese
- 1/2 baguette, sliced and toasted
Preheat oven to 350°.
Put grapes on a baking sheet and roast, turning occasionally, until juices caramelize, 40 to 45 minutes.
Serve with blue cheese and baguette toasts, if you like.

I love the combination of sharp and tangy cheese and sweet fruits.
I have texture issues however (one of the reasons bananas don’t do much for me) and I prefer my grapes to be icy cold and juicy enough to pop in my mouth. If they get even the slightest bit soggy, I pitch them, so I would be less likely to go for these on a cheese and fruit plate than just plain grapes. Maybe some caramelized pear slices instead.
With the texture issue you mention you would hate these!!! Caramelised pear sounds wonderful though.
