Honey Glazed Chicken Legs
I should be ashamed to post this… but I’m not!! It is so simple and makes great chicken legs that has everyone who tries them asking for the recipe.
My grandmother, and mother following her, when asked about some “secret family recipes” (meaning things that tasted great and took no time to make) used to say to people, “Oh! They are a wee bit complicated, but I’ll give you the recipe later. Remind me.” and then make sure that they “forgot” until eventually asked again… and repeat…
This is one of those recipes. It tastes great and takes no work at all.
Basically, you put them into the oven, then brush them with a really simple glaze and let the oven do the rest.
Bob loves when I make these. Usually. He guards the oven from the ninja squirrels/whatever critters that might break in and steal them. And expects to be paid for his vigilance with some of the chicken meat. However, when these are being made for someone else, as this batch were, he feels cheated. All that work and only a slice of cooked ham to show for it…
Honey Glazed Chicken Legs
- 8 chicken drumsticks and/or thighs (about 2 pounds total)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped green onion
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Dash ground red pepper
Arrange chicken pieces on a baking sheet making sure pieces do not touch. Bake in a 400 degree F oven for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, combine green onion, honey, garlic powder, and ground red pepper. Brush chicken pieces with honey mixture.
Return to oven. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes more or until golden brown and chicken is no longer pink.

Our dogs guard the same way. It’s like they are willing the food to fly out of the oven into their mouths!
This looks yummy as well.
Bob sees it as his duty and he is dedicated to the cause! Echo… well, she sees it as her duty to hold the bed down as she isn’t entirely sure that gravity exists.
LOL, Guinness does the same thing! And he makes sure to show me his belly so I can reward him.
They have such hard lives!
Alison, I loved the picture of your guard dog. I think he deserves a treat of his own … maybe a thigh without the honey etc from which the meat can be ripped off easily and fed to Bob when cooled, cause we all know chicken bones aren’t good for a doggie. Honey glazing really adds a great flavour to chicken legs.
Coincidentally I made a great honey glazed chinese inspired chicken drumstick recipe earlier in the week. I marinated the chicken in the mixture first which helped flavour the chicken even more and then basted with the mixture (I boiled if first to make it safe). I’ll post the recipe eventually.
That sounds great!! I am really fussy about chicken with the pups, they get it every Sunday but I shred it and make sure that not even a small bone gets through. They love Sunday dinners!
What a great looking glaze!
Thank you, and it is so simple that it is almost shameful!
Those look fantastic!
Thank you.
